Resolved Question: The Rolling Stones and the Woodstock Festival...?

I've always wondered: were the Stones considered for Woodstock? I know most of the stories -- The Beatles didn't play because the promoters wouldn't let Yoko Ono play a set, Bob Dylan's son fell ill shortly before the festival began, The Doors didn't play because Jim Morrison wasn't fond of large outdoor venues (though the drummer attended), Led Zeppelin didn't want to be 'just another band on the bill' and did their own high-profile summer tour instead -- but I've never heard why the Stones didn't play. Were they offered a chance to? I'm sure any rock festival in 1969 would have been more than happy to have Mick, Keith, and company on the stage. I know, later in '69, the Stones headlined the disastrous Altamont Free Concert ("Woodstock West" gone murderously awry). Were Mick and Keith in jail at the time? lol... Read More »
